Bournemouth’s young people can now receive essential advice about moving out of home and the risks of becoming homeless with the launch of the Council’s TUTI (Talk Us Through It) service.
Bournemouth’s Housing Solutions team together with Homeless Voices and YMCA are launching a brand new service called TUTI with an interactive DVD, Homelessness Guide and Mediation service to help and advise young people about their choices when leaving home and help resolve problems when things go wrong.
Councillor Douglas Spencer, Cabinet Member for Social and Housing Support said: “This is a fantastic initiative. We have a duty to reduce the number of young people in temporary accommodation or who are at risk of sleeping rough so this project is vital so that young people can make informed decisions about moving out and their future. I am also pleased that we have been able to involve the young people from Homeless Voices to help us produce the interactive DVD and booklet.”
To mark the launch there will be special screenings of the DVD (2.30pm and 5pm) on 5 February 2010 at the Town Hall. Staff from the mediation service together with the young people from Homeless Voices will be on hand to discuss the project. Around 150 people from a variety of agencies who deal with young people together with representatives from Communities and Local Government will be attending the launch.
The DVD and booklet will be rolled out to secondary schools across Bournemouth in the coming months to be used as an education tool for pupils of school leaving age.
