About this Consultation

The purpose of this exercise was to advise local residents about plans for a one-year site for visiting Gypsies & Travellers to the west of Riverside Drive and to collect feedback on the site design and management.

Those consulted included local residents, local businesses and Gypsies & Travellers.

Four drop-in sessions were arranged for residents to attend and give suggestions or raise concerns.  A meeting was held for local businesses to attend.  A discussion was also held at the Throop, Muscliff, Strouden, Townsend and Holdenhurst Area Forum.  Presentations were given to the Townsend Together Team.  In addition email and telephone correspondence was received from residents and travellers.

The consultation was promoted through the Echo, the Bournemouth Borough Council website, BH Life and via word of mouth.

Results

The consultation resulted in a list of suggested changes and actions to the site design.  Click here to view the full list or view the document attached below.

Consequently, a new set of costings were requested and it was found that the cost of incorporating these changes would be too high and therefore not represent Value for Money.

As a result, planning will now proceed for a permanent transit site where it will be more cost effective to take on board the suggestions put forward during this consultation.  The location is yet to be determined.

The findings of this consultation activity have been or will be publicised in the Echo, in BH Life, on the Council website and here on the Bournemouth 2026 website.  Feedback will also be given via telephone and at the area forum.
