About this Consultation

The Dorset History Centre (DHC) houses the Joint Archive Service for the authorities of Bournemouth, Dorset and Poole. The collections held at DHC consist of unique, irreplaceable items (documents, volumes, photographs, film and sound recordings, maps and plans) dating back over 1000 years.

You might recall the recent discovery of a dinosaur skull (the biggest of its kind
discovered) in Dorset- the finding was temporarily housed in DHC during the phase of media interest.

The role of DHC is to preserve this vital cultural heritage for future generations; to make it available to customers onsite and (increasingly) online; and to encourage understanding and use of the material through programmes of education and outreach. A survey was conducted with members of Bournemouth Council's e-panel to establish how well known the DHC is and how often and for what purposes people use it.

The survey was also conducted via Dorset County Council's Citizens' Panel.
