Don’t Miss Your Chance to Vote in the General Election

With the General Election looming, Bournemouth Borough Council is urging people to make sure they are registered to vote now and not miss the opportunity to have their say.

“If people are interested in what goes on in their community they must make sure now that they are on the electoral register so they can vote in this year’s election’ said Matt Pitcher, Electoral Services Manager.

He continued: “The date for this year’s General Election has not been formally announced but when it is the last chance to register to vote can be a matter of a few days. I would urge people to register as soon as possible and not wait until the election is called.”

All eligible residents aged 18 or over can vote in the General Election, which has to be held by no later than 3 June this year. One possible date for the election could be 6 May, and so residents are reminded that if they think they may be away during April or May it is worth applying for a postal or a proxy vote to make sure they don’t lose their vote.

Registering to vote only takes a few minutes and can be done online at www.aboutmyvote.co.uk or by calling Bournemouth’s electoral services team on 01202 451123. The electoral services team can also help if you are unsure if you are already registered or if you want to apply for a postal or proxy vote.
