Bournemouth Day Centre to Play Host to MP Visit

Bournemouth’s Nortoft Day Centre will be the focal point for a visit from MP Barbara Follett on Tuesday 16 March 2010 who will be updated on the progress of the Total Place pilot.

Barbara Follett, Under-Secretary of State for Department for Communities and Local Government will be meeting representatives from Bournemouth, Poole and Dorset councils together with the Primary Care Trust and Police to hear about the work done so far to explore closer collaborative working between the organisations to provide improved services for older people.

Councillor Barry Goldbart, Cabinet Member for Adult Services said: “We are extremely pleased to welcome Barbara Follett to Bournemouth and to discuss with her our collective work so far. It is essential that we find more effective ways of working collaboratively with our partners in order to provide improved services for local older people.”

“The Total Place project is a real opportunity to deliver better services by taking a ‘whole area’ approach and a number of areas have been identified where money could be saved and services improved.”

The areas include:

Avoiding hospital admissions where possible
Increasing early intervention and prevention services
Helping people regain skills after illness
Helping people to remain independent in their own homes

During the visit, Barbara Follett will also meet visitors of the day centre and see some of the activities that are provided to help older people in Bournemouth.
