'Strengthening our Economy' Objective 2: The development of the new 'lifeskills business training courses' is attracting new private sector investment to the centre as a community business and the courses are helping employers to retain and support their staff. Objective 3: Through its regional , national and European awards the centre helps create a positive image for Bournemouth. Objective 4: Work with the local Sure Start Bournemouth initiative is helping to secure the economic regeneration of an area with significant deprivation. Objective 6: The centre's Safety Tours provide an unusual and enjoyable attraction which may help increase the numbers of people taking part in recreational activities. Targets: Through the work outlined above the centre contributes to Targets 8, 9 and 10 providing training for business, increasing the number of recreational services and helping to reduce levels of deprivation. | Contribution to Partnership | Streetwise is an interactive safety education initiative created in partnership with the emergency services, the statutory authorities and the business community. It is a life-sized village built inside a 10,000 square foot warehouse near Wallisdown. Scenarios are built of bricks and stone and include: a High Street with shops and office fronts: two storey house; back garden; park; narrow alleyway; electricity sub station; railway line; farmyard; wet and dry heathland areas; beach and building site. Streetwise helps to increase quality of life through promoting good citizenship; encouraging self-help and personal responsibility across the ages - from pre-schoolers, school age children, family units, teenagers, elderly people and overseas students. Guided 'Safety Tours' around the scenarios incorporate a specially tailored mix of safety, crime prevention, citizenship, disability and environmental issues for all ages. These tours offer people the opportunity to learn about risk reduction and good citize |
