What we do	The extent to which voluntary/charitable work undergirds the well-being of many communities can be forgotten in the midst of the need to bid for funding for specific projects and the way in which this can consume energy and attention. The contribution of the churches within this voluntary/charitable work is very significant. In some communities it may be regard as "the leaven in the lump"; that which is vital but often unseen. Church halls and premises are already widely used in many areas as resources for the whole community. The churches have a number of networks of their own which serve as a means for the exchange of information, ideas and support between groups and projects. We see both direct and indirect links with the Targets. In many cases a better description may be 'informal links'. For example the existence of a number of regular groups for older people is likely to contribute informally to CT 40, (Reduce the rate of growth in unplanned and avoidable admissions to hospital of people over 75
Contribution to Partnership	The churches represent a significant presence within every area/district of Bournemouth. The church member, congregations and ministers/clergy/pastors offer a widespread contribution to the life of most neighbourhoods, much of it in a voluntary capacity. This commitment springs from the belief that God loves each and every person and that God creates human beings such that they find their greatest fulfilment in community. Christians also believe that it is an essential part of discipleship to give practical expression to their love of god and love of their 'neighbour'. The Christian churches, (and a number of Christian organisations), have welcomed the opportunity to be involved in the Bournemouth Partnership and are keen to make a contribution to its development. A group of church leaders seeking to represent the churches of Bournemouth and to relate to the partnership process was aware that much work in the community was already being undertaken by the churches.
