The Department for Children, Schools and Families’ [DCSF] ‘Children’s Plan’ sets out ambitions for making our country the best place in the world for children and young people to grow up. The DCSF outlined the existence of Children’s Trusts across the country to improve the lives and futures of children and young people as part of the Children Act 2004.
Children’s Trusts develop and provide better services, helping professionals to work together in ways that make sense for families and children. Bournemouth Borough Council brings together everyone who works with children and families, including for example, health services, schools, the police and the voluntary sector.
The multi-agency Change for Children Board, acting as the Bournemouth Children’s Trust, is chaired by the Cabinet Member for Children’s Services (Cllr Malcolm Davies) and the group of Executives meets quarterly to put in place processes, policies and governance needed to support joint planning and commissioning of services and integrated frontline working.
• The Board’s Terms of Reference
The Executive Director for Children & Families Services (Jane Portman), as a member of the Board, chairs the Change for Children Programme Group. The multi-agency group meets monthly and focuses on performance management of change projects and strategic plans to improve the Every Child Matters outcomes for children and young people.
A Shared Commitment
All member organisations and partners are dedicating staff time to operational multi-agency projects and further developing co-operative working. Patterns of working are changing across all services as local Children’s Trust arrangements become simply “the way we do things.”
All of the organisations involved are committed to developing and maintaining equality, diversity and good race relations, and to improving the education and care of children and young people of all backgrounds. These key aims will continue to be promoted through the work and influence of all partners and are outlined in the joint Bournemouth Children and Young People Plan.
